Military Range Estimation Study Reels consist of the subject plane at 7 different ranges. These reels were issued to military personnel during World War II, for recognition and range estimation of both enemy and friendly aircraft.

Range Estimation Study Reels (AA+Number) differ from Study Reels (S+Number) and Test Reels (T+Number) which involve range estimation rather than recognition of different planes.

The planes often appear far away in the images, but it is crucial that the aviator not only recognize but asses range for formulation of possible attack strategy.
